Bob Young Scholarship: The Bob Young Scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who have been with the club for at least two years, and meet certain criteria set by the Director. This year, the Bob Young Scholarship was given to two Steuben Striders Seniors who were not able to compete in their senior season due to the Coronavirus, in addition to one 2021 graduate. You always will be a part of the Striders Family, come back to coach or assist any time.
Bob Young Memorial Award: This award is the highest award given in the program. The award goes to the boy and girl that best exemplifies what Mr. Young would have wanted instilled in his youngsters. The recipients must have been with the program for a minimum of two years. Attitude, competitiveness, loyalty, sportsmanship, and fellowship will be considered.
Brian Fritz Award: Brian was a distance runner and threw the shot put. He showed love for both running and field events. He went on to become a Pediatric physician. This award goes to the distance runner and thrower who best exemplified his attitude during the 2021 Steuben Strider Season.
Elizabeth Montgomery Award: Elizabeth was dedicated person who loved working with and helping the Steuben Striders program in every way. She encouraged the runners even if they did not win, always telling them, “you are a winner because you tried your best, and your best is what makes you a winner.” The award goes to the athlete who best exemplified the attributes of Elizabeth during the 2021 Steuben Strider Season.
Eugene Hargrove Award: Eugene loved working with the Striders. His motto was, “Never give up, always remember to support and congratulate your teammate.” This helps develop a lasting friendship with your fellow teammates. This award goes to the Strider who best exemplifies this.
Gary Murry Award: This award goes to the athlete that best shows sportsmanship, determination, competitiveness, and dedication to the sport. This athlete is dedicated to mastering her/his events, whether it is a jump, throw, or run. This athlete is successful in her/his events; she/he knows how to win humbly and never champions her/his success over others. This athlete demonstrated these attributes during the 2021 Steuben Strider season.
Kerri Sims Award: Kerri was an athlete who always cared for her fellow teammates. She told them to do their best even if they felt their best wasn’t good enough; because a winner is a person who finishes the race with heart, determination, and spirit. “THAT’S A WINNER.” This award goes to the female runner who best exemplifies Kerri’s attitude
President Award: The President Award is chosen by our president, Coach Ron Bolster. The athlete must have been with the Steuben Striders for at least three years and show competitiveness, pride, and loyalty to the Strider Program. The athlete must be a leader to his/her fellow athletes. This is the second highest award given. This award goes to the athlete who best exemplified what it means to be a leader in a team during the 2021 Steuben Strider season.
Quinten Worrels Nelson Award: Quinten was a kind friend and team player; he was beloved by all and touched the hearts of many. He would always stay after practice and meets to help the coaches with whatever they needed. He treated everyone with respect and loved his family and God. This award goes to the athlete, who best exemplified Quinten’s attributes during the 2021 Steuben Strider season.
Tracy Montina Young Pleasant Award: This award is given in honor of Tracy, the daughter of Founders Coach Bob and Pat. Our Heavenly Father
may have called Tracy home, but she is smiling down on the Steuben Striders. Tracy always said, “If you give honor, praise, and glory to God - family, friends, and success is only a step away.” This award goes to the athlete who embodies the spirit of Tracy during the 2021 Steuben Strider season.
Note: These awards do not always go to the best athlete but to a member who best exemplifies what the Steuben Striders stand for.
